MES for Automotive Electronics
End-to-end digital management covers SMT, assembly, testing and traceability for a transparent, efficient workshop.
What is automotive electronics?
Automotive electronics encompasses vehicle electronic control devices and onboard electronic systems. Vehicle controls include engine, chassis and body electronic control systems, including body ECUs. Their main purposes are safety, comfort, economy and entertainment. An electronic control system can combine sensors, microprocessors (MPUs), actuators, and dozens or hundreds of electronic components and associated parts.
Manufacturing challenges
Large-scale recalls can cause major losses and serious consequences. Production and quality data are dynamic, voluminous and complex. They support production statistics and quality monitoring, but also lifetime vehicle-quality tracking, so accuracy is essential.
Barcodes in the automotive industry
Automatic acquisition by scanning improves input accuracy and speed. Manual methods cause errors and duplicate work—paper forms followed by computer entry—while delayed information limits effective production tracking and management. Just-in-time logistics, beginning with final assembly, demands efficient, accurate and timely operations. Barcode labels act as data carriers within a wider barcode system and provide the basis for acquisition.
Process tracking and manufacturing records
Dynamic automatic acquisition records relationships between components and finished products, including critical-part configurations, suppliers, supply batches, production plans, inspection data, times and personnel. The product-centred manufacturing record covers the five Ws: WHO—team and personnel; WHERE—factory and station; WHEN—assembly, line completion and inspection times; WHAT—activities and operating data; WHY—work instructions, decisions and handling actions.
Product quality management
Inspection standards are required. MES establishes an electronic inspection framework, captures inspection data by barcode and standardizes workflows. Timely quality summaries reduce acquisition effort and relate people, products, inspections, methods, handling actions and plans, providing evidence for traceability and corrective action.
What can be traced?
A product barcode can identify past logistics movements, internal component configurations, component suppliers, supply batches, purchase orders, production processes and inspection records. If a component batch has a widespread quality problem, forward tracing identifies affected finished products and their logistics distribution. Zhongyuan Software provides the traceability capability described here.
Evidence for supplier and customer claims
A manufacturer sits between suppliers and customers and acts as both buyer and seller. Barcode records reconstruct logistics and manufacturing, reveal where a problem arose and provide evidence for prompt responses to customer complaints and supplier claims.
