Digital Monitoring

Video IoT and intelligent security monitoring

Positioning

Network cameras and a video platform support clear capture, reliable retention, efficient retrieval, event analysis and operational management. Applications include parks, campuses, hospitals, factories, communities, transport, water infrastructure and construction sites, with links to fire systems, access control, alarms and emergency command.

Core functions

Capture and transmission

The device range may include bullet, PTZ and dome cameras; panoramic stitching; thermal and low-light cameras; explosion-protected or underwater devices; and portable or drone video feeds. H.265/H.266 and intelligent encoding can retain detail in regions of interest while reducing background bitrate. Adaptive main/sub-streams and packet-loss handling support constrained networks. Interfaces include ONVIF, GB/T 28181, RTSP, RTMP, HLS and WebRTC, subject to device compatibility and reuse requirements.

Storage and playback

Use NVR, CVR, object storage or a hybrid design. Recording policies cover continuous and event recording, pre- and post-event capture, cyclic overwrite and protected clips. Playback can provide timeline thumbnails, event markers, synchronised multi-channel views, speed and frame controls, clip export and watermarks. Size storage from channel count, resolution, bitrate and retention. At 4 Mbps, 30 days of continuous video is approximately 1.3 TB per channel before redundancy and growth allowances.

Platform management

  • Batch onboarding, topology and asset records, remote configuration, firmware updates and offline/fault alarms.

  • Organisational and domain-based permissions, camera-level access, temporary authorisation, audit trails and two-factor login.

  • Video walls, one-action response plans, map-linked cameras and integration with intercoms, public address and access control.

  • Online rates, recording completeness, frame loss, latency, time synchronisation and automated inspection reports.

Event analysis

Potential applications include perimeter intrusion, line crossing, loitering, occupancy counts, fights or falls, unattended posts, and objects left or removed. Transport functions include number plates, vehicle categories, unauthorised parking, wrong-way movement and queues. Fire and production monitoring can cover smoke/flames, obstructed routes, protective equipment, hazardous-area entry and leaks. Structured person, vehicle and object data may support image- or text-based retrieval, subject to authorisation and privacy controls.

Technical approach

Lightweight inference at cameras reduces bandwidth and central processing. Edge devices aggregate streams and analyse multiple channels; a central platform manages access, storage, model deployment and authorised sharing. Consider dedicated video networks or VLANs, QoS, redundant core links and tiered regional platforms.

Indicative acceptance targets

The supplied design proposes at least 1080p, 4K at critical locations, at least 25 fps and wide dynamic range of 120 dB or more. Indicative preview latency is up to 500 ms on a LAN or 1.5 seconds over a public network, with control response within 1 second. Other proposed targets include 99.9% platform availability, failover within 30 seconds, and perimeter detection accuracy of at least 95% in agreed conditions. These are project-planning targets to validate with the selected equipment, network, dataset and test method, not measured results for every deployment.

Security and deployment requirements

China projects should review applicable cybersecurity, data-security and personal-information rules and MLPS requirements. Define purpose and retention, provide appropriate public-area notices, and treat facial information as sensitive data. Protect exports through approval, dynamic watermarks, redacted sharing and expiring links. Manage passwords, keys and access logs; the reference scope calls for at least six months of logs where applicable, with longer retention for relevant industries.

Implementation

Survey camera coverage, blind spots, lighting, power and lightning protection. Design bandwidth and storage, install devices, connect existing equipment and deploy the platform. The reference plan allows 2–4 weeks of real-data iteration for AI tuning. Configure linked response plans and test image quality, recording completeness, latency, alert accuracy and power/network failure. Establish inspections, spares, duty procedures and drills.

Intended benefits

The objective is to move from retrospective investigation toward earlier warning, improve use of security staff and shorten response times. The source describes movement from minute-scale to second-scale response as an objective requiring project validation.
